When it comes to setting New Year’s resolutions, most people shoot for the moon. We’ve all done it as we tell ourselves that this will be the year we’ll give up crisps (my nemesis), do the plank every day (my worst idea ever) go running every morning, go vegan and stop drinking. As I type on NYE my husband has decided to go for the trifecta in January – out goes dairy, coffee and booze – I know !! Seriously!! I’ll keep you posted!
However the majority of us do not have his willpower or sheer bloody determination and inevitably, three weeks later, we will find ourselves right back where we started. Bring on Blue Monday – there is no excuse really.
When it comes to your brilliant reach for the skies goals, which are usually based on totally unrealistic expectations and don’t leave you any wiggle room – these, are a classic set up for failure with a capital F.
The commonly uses statistic is that only 8% of people actually keep their New Year’s resolutions, according to a commonly used statistic. There are many many reasons.
Most people who make resolutions end up giving up on them after a month so why not use this time to show some real ambition and make 2018 a life changing year instead?
So STOP thinking what you’re going to STOP and instead reframe your thinking and consider and plan what you’ll embrace, make your own and take action.
But if you want to make 2018 YOUR year, perhaps you should forget resolutions. Think instead of areas of your business and life that you are COMMITTED to do and TAKE ACTION – NO MATTER WHAT!
So can I encourage you all to not stop making changes, but simply to reset your thinking, your approach and your attention. Instead list what you are willing to committed to take action with renewed gusto no matter what!
The no matter what element is THE most important. No matter whether the children are ill, you’re feeling under the weather. No matter whether you’ve had a bad day / too tired / your partner just finished with you / the cat threw up… do you get the picture. NO MATTER WHAT!
Whether its to do a plank a day, or to commit to taking a yoga class, drop a stone, learn a new language, or simply eat 3 balanced meals a day, drink 2 litres of water a day, call 3 new customers a day, complete a cash flow summary – what are you committed to doing no matter what?
Happy New Year + 1 day – time for action and time for the success you deserve in 2018
