For me, the idea of meditating took some warming up to. I saw it as a new age hoo-ha, and I don’t think you can blame me! But after years of rave reviews from friends, colleagues and clients, I decided to give it a go. Surprisingly, the area in my life that has reaped the most reward has been my business! I can honestly say it has changed my life!
For me, meditation has taught me to be less reactive. My practise has shown me that everything is temporary, that emotions are not to be seen as good or bad but to be noticed and learned from.
In the past and in terms of business, if I missed a chance to gain a new client or something didn’t quite go my way, I would feel myself become consumed by self-doubting, damaging thoughts. It could certainly ruin my day, and sometimes even my week. Contrastingly, when I am consistent with my mediation (and I won’t lie, there are times/ weeks where it goes completely out the window!) if something doesn’t go my way I may still feel upset, stressed or irritated but instead of harbouring the feelings, I recognise them and move on. If for example, I did miss the opportunity to gain a new client I will ask myself why things didn’t go how I wanted them to. Was I too optimistic? Was it my approach? The end result is usually that I find something for myself to work on in the future.
It’s clear to me that the art of meditation is key to living a stress free life and running a stress free business. Self love practices and how to quash adrenal fatigue; the entrepreneurs burn out. There is an increasing body of research on the scientific evidence regarding the benefits of meditation. Some of these benefits include:
- Less rumination
- Reduced stress
- Better focus
- Improved memory
- Greater emotional control
- Higher relationship satisfaction
If the scientific evidence isn’t convincing enough, perhaps knowing that all these amazing entrepreneurs name meditation as a key contributor to their success will change your mind?
